Chapter 1384 – Everyone was disabled

The steel plates fell.

The air seemed to freeze for an instant, and everything fell silent.

Zhou Wei and Mr. Sun stared at the fallen steel plates, holding their breath in shock.

When their thighs and arms were cut off, they didn’t even feel it. However, the moment they looked down, they all screamed in horror.

Screams echoed through the courtyard, a heart-wrenching sound.

The whistling sand and dust in the raging wind created a ghastly scene, with bloody limbs scattered all around, resembling a hellish nightmare.

“Ah!”

“My hand!”

“Help!”

“Save us!”

Outside the courtyard, the people from Cheng Gang County were dumbfounded. A female staff couldn’t hold back and vomited. The loud noise and screams attracted many passersby. When they looked inside from the entrance and saw the bloody scene, several onlookers couldn’t help but vomit as well.

Half of an arm.

An entire nose.

Two pieces of lips.

Two severed thighs.

The scene before them was horrifying.

“Save Secretary Zhou and the rest!”

“Oh no, oh no!”

“Quick, call an ambulance!”

People from Cheng Gang County shouted, and several urgently took out their phones to make calls, but none dared to approach and help.

There were still falling objects.

No one wanted to follow in their footsteps.

Another fragment of a board fell.

Dong Xuebing, lying on the ground, looked at the police officers on the side, then glanced at the situation of Zhou Wei and Mr. Sun. He felt pretty satisfied. He didn’t want to kill them. That wouldn’t achieve the desired effect. It was too simple. All eight of them were disabled, and his goal was achieved. You almost caused my wife and child to lose their lives. Deny it all you want. Well, I’ll make sure you all remain disabled for life. Dong Xuebing thought it was fair. Otherwise, with the destruction of evidence, he had no way to deal with the people from Cheng Gang County. If they didn’t receive the punishment they deserved, they wouldn’t repent in the future but continue to be scoundrels in the ranks of officials.

Dong Xuebing had given them a chance.

If someone had come forward to point out who pushed Huilan, if they hadn’t destroyed the evidence, if they hadn’t boldly shouted against the people from Fen Zhou City after the incident, if they hadn’t shown an attitude of sacrificing others for their survival, Dong Xuebing wouldn’t have been so ruthless.

However…

Zhou Wei used other officials as shields.

Two police officers pulled Dong Xuebing away to save their lives.

Dong Xuebing was utterly disappointed with these people and naturally wouldn’t show mercy. Many falling objects weren’t originally aimed at those people. Still, he stopped time, walked over, and added force to change the direction of the falling objects. This resulted in a catastrophic scene for all of them. Watching each of the eight people either faint or scream in pain, he felt satisfied.

At this moment, he was unharmed.

Dong Xuebing supported himself and stood up.

Surprisingly, Zhou Wei didn’t faint. He was holding his lower body, which no longer had legs. The pain caused him to break out in a cold sweat. Seeing that Dong Xuebing was the only one able to move, Zhou Wei couldn’t help but shout at him, “Save me, damn it!” At this point, Zhou Wei still had an unrepentant attitude. A junior secretary, after nearly causing Dong Xuebing’s wife’s death, dared to give orders and yell at Dong Xuebing.

“Pick up my legs quickly!” Zhou Wei wasn’t stupid. Knowing that with the current medical technology, there was a good chance for recovery if the severed limbs were promptly stitched back on.

Still shouting, asking me to save you, with this attitude?

Dong Xuebing was annoyed once again by the people from Cheng Gang County. When Huilan was pushed to the ground by you, why didn’t you help and only focus on escaping? In the end, it was the people from Fen Zhou City who rescued my wife and took her to the hospital. You not only almost killed my wife, but you also didn’t even bother to help. Now, you want me to save you and shout at me aggressively? Are you kidding me?

Save you?

Fine.

I’ll save you.

Dong Xuebing went up to rescue Zhou Wei. However, his expression seemed rushed, and his steps were precarious. He stumbled and staggered to Zhou Wei.

Zhou Wei shouted, “Hurry!”

“I’m coming, coming,” Dong Xuebing said, lowering his head to help him.

But at that moment, Dong Xuebing tripped. In an unfortunate misstep, he accidentally stepped on the severed end of Zhou Wei’s right leg. With a gasp, the flesh and bones on the severed end of the right leg were crushed by Dong Xuebing’s foot and, yes, crushed. The leg was deformed, and the flesh and blood vessels all merged. Although modern medicine is advanced, there are limits. A surgeon might be able to reconnect a cleanly severed thigh, but there’s no way to reconnect a thigh that has been crushed. Dong Xuebing’s unintentional step destroyed Zhou Wei’s hope of recovery.

Zhou Wei saw it, and his eyes turned red, “Ah, what are you doing to my leg, my leg!”

“Sorry, I didn’t stand firm,” Dong Xuebing apologized, but his tone conveyed irritation. After helping him up, another falling object came down. Ironically, while Dong Xuebing held onto him, his foot slipped again. His shoe kicked Zhou Wei’s left leg, and the left leg rolled out with a gurgling sound, landing precisely where the last falling object hit.

A loud splatter.

Blood splashed, and the left leg was smashed into a pulp.

“Ah!” Zhou Wei cursed at Dong Xuebing, “You damn bastard!”

Out of anger, loss of blood, and unbearable pain, Zhou Wei fainted.

People outside the courtyard saw it, too, but they thought Dong Xuebing didn’t do it on purpose. In such a disastrous scene, with continuous falling danger, it was inevitable to stumble and fall. Survival was the key, even if both legs were lost. When they saw Zhou Wei not only asking Dong Xuebing to save him but also yelling and cursing at him, many people were disgusted by Zhou Wei. Even those unrelated officials from Cheng Gang County were reluctant to help him.

At this moment, the true nature of a person became more apparent.

Given Zhou Wei’s character, even the county officials outside Cheng Gang didn’t want to rescue him.

But Dong Xuebing did.

Dong Xuebing pulled Zhou Wei to the entrance of the courtyard.

People from Cheng Gang County looked at Dong Xuebing in surprise, thinking he was magnanimous. Zhou Wei’s group almost killed his wife, and Zhou Wei shouted viciously for Dong Xuebing to save him. If it were someone else, they would have abandoned him long ago. Yet, Dong Xuebing still put aside grievances to save someone.

That’s what a leader should be.

That’s what a party member should be.

Everyone sighed. The falling objects were already cleared, and the danger wasn’t significant. The officials from Cheng Gang County quickly went up to help.

“Hurry, give me a hand!”

“Who has cloth for stopping bleeding?”

“Why hasn’t the ambulance arrived yet?”

“There are still people inside. Let’s rescue them first.”

Dong Xuebing took charge of the scene. His position made him the highest-ranking there.

However, they didn’t know Dong Xuebing’s character was far from noble. His penchant for revenge was well-known within the system. The reason he rescued Zhou Wei was not out of selflessness. It was because he feared Zhou Wei might die from excessive bleeding. If that happened, the act of breaking Zhou Wei’s legs and crushing his thighs would lose its meaning. Dong Xuebing didn’t want to kill him outright. It was too simple. He wanted Zhou Wei and the others to suffer for the rest of their lives, considering this to be the best and most significant punishment.

So, Dong Xuebing went back to save people.

The wind had subsided, and the sand and dust gradually settled.

Many people feared the danger and didn’t dare to go deep inside. But Dong Xuebing dared. He rushed in alone while the wind and sand were still blowing. In the chaos, he deliberately damaged an ear and an arm, among other organs. Of course, he didn’t leave shoeprints. Instead, he used a stone to crush them. He wouldn’t give them a chance to reattach severed body parts. He completely shattered their hopes of recovery.

After a while, people were rescued one by one.

Dong Xuebing worked the hardest, rescuing five people on his own.

The remaining three were pulled out by Cheng Gang County officials and some brave locals who risked their lives. They were all tired, breathing heavily. Their exhaustion was not only physical but also psychological, as the appearance of these eight people was quite gruesome.

Bandaging wounds and providing basic first aid, all seven individuals from Cheng Gang County and the construction company’s manager, Sun, managed to save their lives.

Sitting on the ground, several officials from Cheng Gang County looked at the group of leaders led by Zhou Wei. Two of them couldn’t help but run aside and vomit a few times.

No legs, no feet, no hands — all eight people were now disabled.

The Cheng Gang County officials understood that Zhou Wei, Mr. Sun, and the others were done for in this lifetime. Not only was keeping their jobs unlikely, but living a normal life would also be unrealistic, especially for Zhou Wei and others with severe injuries. Without one to take care of them, living independently would be impossible.

Only Dong Xuebing was unscathed.

Only Dong Xuebing emerged from this unharmed.

The common people were unaware of the details. Still, the Cheng Gang County officials knew some of the internal situation. Seeing this, they were terrified.

This incident was too coincidental.

Dong Xuebing’s wife had just been injured due to falling objects.

Now, Zhou Wei and the others were similarly affected by falling objects.

Was this divine retribution?

Was it heaven’s punishment for them?
