Inside the mansion.
In Grandpa Fang’s room.
The room carried a faint aroma of pie, indicating that Grandpa Fang had just finished his meal. The dishes were still on the table.
Dong Xuebing, feeling at home, said, “Did you just finish eating, Grandpa?”
Grandpa Fang nodded, “If you didn’t eat at home, there’s still some pie in the kitchen. It should be warm.”
Dong Xuebing laughed, “No need, I’ve just eaten too. We had stir-fried dishes back at my place. I’m still full.”
Grandpa Fang’s expression was calm, yet he didn’t seem to carry much of a formal demeanor, talking to Dong Xuebing quite casually. “Sit down, Little Dong,” he said.
“Okay.” Dong Xuebing sat halfway on a chair.
However, the bodyguard continued to stare at Dong Xuebing with an unwelcoming expression.
Grandpa Fang then said, “Alright, Xiao Zhang, you can go out.”
“That can’t be,” the bodyguard remained unmoved, likely because he didn’t trust Dong Xuebing.
Grandpa Fang insisted, “Go out. Also, go and bring the eldest and second ones up here.”
The bodyguard hesitated for a moment and then went out. It was likely he had heard about some of Dong Xuebing’s exploits, which made him wary. He knew well that if Dong Xuebing wanted to do something against Grandpa Fang, the bodyguard wouldn’t be able to stop him. Even with his level of bodyguard, he was acutely aware that he wasn’t a match for Dong Xuebing—one person had single-handedly taken down a modernized army in Florida, and even survived rocket-propelled grenades and grenades, flipping two armored cars without a scratch to rescue someone back to the country. Just hearing about such feats gave him a clear picture. The bodyguard knew his limits.
Soon, the others arrived.
Grandpa Fang’s room was spacious enough to fit everyone.
When they all walked in, the second sister-in-law’s face was filled with anger, “How did you get in here? Do you have no manners? Private property, are you just barging in like this?”
The younger members of Fang’s family also glared at Dong Xuebing, their expressions not friendly. They had only heard of this name before; they had never met Dong Xuebing in person. Today was the first time, and Dong Xuebing’s entrance had left a deep impression. The mansion’s strict security was bypassed without anyone noticing, directly landing him in Grandpa Fang’s room. This incident indirectly confirmed the rumors about Dong Xuebing—he was indeed a character who was impossible to get a handle on.
They were all young.
Almost the same age group.
Naturally, everyone had a sense of rivalry in their minds, not willing to back down.
However, Dong Xuebing didn’t seem interested in competing with the younger members of the Fang family. His purpose today was task-oriented. “Sorry, the bodyguard at the door didn’t let me in, so I had no choice but to use this method. I apologize for the intrusion; everyone, please accept my apologies.
He glanced towards Fang Wenping, who was the last to arrive, sitting in a corner, quietly reading a book without looking at Dong Xuebing. Dong Xuebing, of course, had to keep a low profile; he thought to himself, ‘Good old Fang, I’ll settle scores with you when I get back to Shaanbei. You didn’t even answer my calls.’
The eldest from the Fang family spoke up, “He is a guest from afar.”
Hearing this, the second sister-in-law muttered quietly, no longer speaking out.
Dong Xuebing smiled, then started addressing everyone, recognizing the elders of Fang’s family. He also greeted the younger ones politely before finally getting down to business, laughing heartily. “I came today on behalf of my family to propose,” he said. Our family’s Xie Ran and your family’s Xiao Ling are in love and of the right age for marriage. So, our family discussed it and sent me here to make the proposal. This is a great occasion! I’m honored and excited to witness Xie Ran and Xiao Ling becoming partners. I’m so happy, I can’t express it enough, haha!” Dong Xuebing was beaming with joy, looking delighted.
Fang Family Members:”……”
Everyone was speechless, thinking, ‘Why are you so happy by yourself? Your words make it sound like they’re already married. What’s going on?’
No one paid any attention to him.
Dong Xuebing didn’t mind, though, turning to Grandpa Fang and saying, “Congratulations, Grandpa Fang. In a couple of years, you’ll be able to hold a great-grandchild.”
Great-grandchild?
“Hey, hey, hey, you’re moving too fast!”
“We haven’t even agreed on their marriage yet.”
A few younger members of the Fang family didn’t know what to say; they thought Dong Xuebing was too thick-skinned, displaying no sense of shame at all.
Grandpa Fang’s third son interrupted him, “Don’t talk about great-grandchildren. Do you think this marriage is suitable?”
Dong Xuebing smiled, “Suitable? I think it’s perfect. Xiao Ran and Xiao Ling are a match made in heaven—talented and beautiful, a perfect match.”
A woman scoffed, “Suitable? What’s suitable?”
One of the younger members of the Fang family chimed in, “Can you make decisions for the family?”
Dong Xuebing chuckled, “The family sent me here, and I’m Xie Ran’s elder brother-in-law. Of course, I can make decisions. We’ll discuss the dowry, don’t worry; we’ll handle it beautifully.” Dong Xuebing’s conversation jumped all over the place, mentioning everything from great-grandchildren to dowries, entirely on his rhythm.
“Dad…” Several people looked towards Grandpa Fang; this matter still had to be decided by Grandpa Fang.
Grandpa Fang glanced lightly at Dong Xuebing, “Xiao Dong, first, thank you for your family’s goodwill. I know you’re here today for Xiao Ling, so I called everyone up for the basic courtesy. After all, you can’t be careless with a child’s marriage.”
Dong Xuebing agreed, “Right, can’t be careless.”
Grandpa Fang continued, “However, we appreciate the goodwill, but let’s not discuss the marriage. Xiao Ling is still a Ph.D. student; by all accounts, she’s still a child. She hasn’t matured enough to take on the responsibilities of marriage yet.”
“Grandpa Fang, I have to stop you there,” Dong Xuebing interjected. “Xiao Ling is already over twenty years old; the legal marriage age has long passed. If the law thought someone over twenty wasn’t capable of handling marital responsibilities, the marriage age would have been postponed long ago. Just setting the age at twenty speaks volumes. I’ve known Xiao Ling for a long time; she’s very mature and sensible, a wonderful child. How could she not be able to handle these responsibilities? Even if Xiao Ling isn’t fully mature yet, Xie Ran is. They support each other, depend on each other—that’s such a happy thing. Plus, Xie Ran can take care of her. I don’t think there’s an issue here.”
Dong Xuebing’s reasoning was always his forte, a strong point.
